It is a collective body providing advice and opinions and comes under the General Secretariat for Human Rights of the <a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ministryofjustice.gr\/English\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ministry of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights<\/a>. It was constituted by virtue of decision 83559\/15\u03bf\u03b9\u03ba.\/10.03.2016 (<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/diavgeia.gov.gr\/search?advanced&amp;query=ada:%2269%CE%A4%CE%92%CE%A9-7%CE%91%CE%9F%22&amp;page=0\">\u0391\u0394\u0391: 69\u03a4\u0392\u03a9-7\u0391\u039f<\/a>) of the Minister of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pursuant to the law, the Council has the power to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Design policies to prevent and combat racism and intolerance in order to ensure the protection of persons and groups that become targets due to race, colour, national or ethnic origin, genealogy, social origin, religious or other beliefs, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Supervise the implementation of the laws against racism and intolerance and the compliance thereof with international and European laws; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Promote and coordinate the activities of involved bodies for more effectively addressing the phenomenon and boost cooperation with civic society in such matters.<\/span><\/li>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t<li class=\"accordion-navigation\">\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" class=\"acc-trigger\" data-mode=\"\">Composition<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"content\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The regular and alternate members of the NCRI are nominated by the competent Ministers and bodies on the basis of their expertise in matters relating to racism or their powers. Specifically, the Hellenic Police representative and his alternate are nominated by the Chief of Hellenic Police and come from an agency competent to combat racist violence.
