European Judicial Network (EJN)

In order to facilitate judicial cooperation, the European judicial network (EJN) was created in 1998.
 The network consists of contact points of each Member State of the EU in Courts or prosecution offices, whose function is to facilitate judicial cooperation, and who meet on a regular basis. They promote judicial co-operation between the competent local authorities, among others by means of:
  • enabling them to establish the most appropriate direct contacts;
  • providing them with legal and practical information; and
  • giving help in resolving difficulties arising from the implementation of a request for assistance.
The contact points act as active intermediaries, but they do not form a new link in the chain of judicial co-operation. Their work is based on the exchange of information and informal contacts.
EJN is based in the Hague, in the headquarters of Eurojust.
