Vicky Giavi
Born and raised in Athens, she attended the Paleo Psyhico High School. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Athens, graduated from the National School for Public Administration and was awarded a Master of Science degree in Environment by the National Technical University of Athens. She speaks English, French and German fluently.
She began her career as civil servant at the Ministry of Interior, where she served as General Director from 2010 to 2018 and earlier as Director from 2004 to 2010 and Head of Departments from 1995 to 2004. During this time period she had led responsibility for the majority of areas of local government and decentralized administration and particularly for the organisation and function of both local authorities and decentralized state authorities, including all human resource activities. While in those positions she signed more than twenty collective agreements as authorized representative of the State. Her expertise goes well beyond the local government field. Her interests also include citizenship and migration.
Over the years she has chaired or participated in numerous boards and committees, among which those related to the design and implementation of KALLIKRATIS (2010) and KLISTHENIS (2016) programs, of the Code for Municipalities (2006), of the Code for Municipal Employees (2007), of the reorganization of the municipal police (2008), the Disciplinary Board of Appeal for Public Servants (2011-2013), the support of the reforms (2010-2018) and the international relations as well.
She has an extensive teaching experience at the National Centre for Public Administration and Local Government as well as the Municipal Police Academies in the fields of local government and public sector employment law. She has also participated in curriculum design for the National School for Local Government and the Municipal Police Academies.
She has taken part as representative in a large number of international meetings, world and international congresses and committees in the EU, the UN and the Council of Europe as well as in bilateral meetings.
She is married and has two sons.
